The ruins of the main Aztec pyramid − the Templo Mayor resemble of the vanished city. This pyramid was once towering over the city to a height of 65 meters and has been ruthlessly destroyed by the army of Hernan Cortes. The priests committed terrible rites of human sacrifice at the top of the pyramid to their bloody gods with the hope of preventing the offensive end of the era of the Fifth Sun and the destruction of civilization. The Museum of Anthropology of Mexico City is known worldwide as the largest museum of Latin America, which houses the unique pieces of the mysterious civilizations of Mesoamerica, which disappeared for unknown reasons. This are the famous Aztec sun stone calendar, multi-ton stone heads with Negroid features, multicolored frescoes of Teotihuacan with flowers, birds and butterflies.

You will visit the city's main square Zocalo (Constitution Square), the Catholic Cathedral, which is a fine example of Baroque and Classical styles, and go to the Presidential Palace, where you will see murals (a kind of wall painting) of the famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera, in which he displayed the full history of Mexico from the Aztecs to XX century.

You will pass through one of the residential areas of Mexico City − Polanco, get acquainted with its sunny streets, lively squares, shady parks, multi-jet fountains, monuments and sculptural installations, with its hospitable and cheerful people.

Note: We offer a lunch in the restaurants of various categories in the city by request of our clients.

Day 7. Mexico City − Teotihuacan and Guadeloupe Shrine

The duration of excursion is 8 hours. You will go to the wonderful city of Teotihuacan, located 60 km from the capital. It was given such name by admiring Aztecs, who came to this region few centuries after the last resident left the city. Even in ruins of the city the Aztecs felt something divine, giving it the name Teotihuacan, which translated from Nahuatl means "the place where the gods are born". And they were right: all the buildings of the city were raised at the beginning of our era according to the position of the stars! In times of greatest prosperity the city had more than two hundred thousand inhabitants, and his equal in size and the number of residents didn’t exist in the Old or the New World, even in the Middle Ages.

The majestic Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon, the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent − Quetzalcoatl, towering over all the surviving buildings of the city, located at the Paths of the Dead, are keeping their secrets, lifting the curtain of mystery surrounding this city forgotten by people for .just a little bit.

You will visit the Palace of Quetzalpapalotl − a mythical bird and butterfly and the palace of the Jaguar, you’ll visit residences of the former inhabitants of Teotihuacan, where many centuries ago the life was in full swing, the people were born and died.

The tour also includes a visit to the basilica (church) of the Virgin of Guadalupe − the most revered saint of the people of Mexico. According to legend, the temple was built on the place where the Immaculate Virgin Mary appeared in 1531 to Juan Diego. In a sign that she takes the people of Mexico under her wing, the Virgin Mary took the form of a dark-skinned Holy Guadeloupe. Her image miraculously imprinted on the homespun cloak of Juan and turned into a miraculous icon. Currently, the icon is kept in the new church, which is a magnificent example of modern architecture, at the same time accommodating 10,000 people.

Note: We offer a lunch in the restaurants of various categories on the territory of Teotihuacan by request of our clients.

Day 8. Tasco − Cuernavaca

The duration of a tour is 12 hours.

Mexico is the largest producer of silver. The first mines were built near the town of Taxco, which is considered to be the silver capital of the country. Each year Taxco, a small town with well-preserved colonial architecture, has more than 500 thousand tourists from all over the world.

The location town of Taxco is very picturesque. White houses with red-tiled roof with black wrought-iron grilles climb up the slopes of the mountains. This town was expecting a sad fate of oblivion as stocks of silver in the local mines almost dried up. But a miracle happened. An American William Spratling came to Taxco, he was a brilliant jeweler who felt in love with this town and stayed there forever. The town has received a second life. A silver jewelry by makers of William Spratling’ school consistently wins prizes at international exhibitions of silver.

There is the church of Santa Prisca in the central square of the town. It is a miracle created by human hands, a gem of baroque architecture. The dome of the church, built of pink stone, towering over Taxco, contrasts with the bright blue bottomless sky of Mexico. The church is under the protection of UNESCO.

On the way to Taxco we’ll visit the town of eternal spring − Cuernavaca, which earned the reputation among all the rulers of both pre-Hispanic and colonial periods due to the surprisingly favorable microclimate. The summer and winter residences for the rulers have been built up here and now the cottages for those who is seeking for a weekend off noisy and polluted capital to breathe the pure and fragrant air of the mountains and fields are built.

You will also see the monastery, built in the XVI century by Franciscan friars, designed to promote the spread of the Catholic faith. Its architectural design is interesting, as differs from the buildings of its kind in Europe. The monastery is under the protection of UNESCO.

Another interesting sight of Cuernavaca is the summer palace of Hernan Cortes, the Spanish conqueror who led La Conquista. The residence was built by him for Indian concubine Doña Marina – La Malinche, who played a prominent role in the defeat of the powerful and formidable Aztec empire.
