Description

Tulum combines the romance and the history: the inimitable Caribbean Sea and the ruins of the ancient Mayan city. The ancient city is built on the edge of a sheer cliff, offering breathtaking view of the turquoise sea, pelicans and eagles flying over your head, and an iguana hiding in the bushes. The stone fortifications that surround an ancient city are a worthy response to lingering strife in the context of political instability in the region.

The lights of Tulum were the first thing noticed by Cortez, steaming up to the coast of Yucatan. Spaniards were so impressed by the size and grandeur of the city, so that they compared it with Seville. Some of the ancient walls still prevail.

The Temple of the Descending God, the Mausoleum of the ruler whose name was Sunny Face, the Temple of murals are situated in Tulum.

Xel-Ha is a park with natural ponds, the complex of caves, valleys, bays, lagoons, which are fed by underground springs and water. In old times it was a favorite vacation spot of the Mayan kings. "Xel" means "source" or "the place of birth" and "ha" means "water", that is Xel-Ha is "the place where the water is born". The legend says that the Mayan gods combined their wisdom, illusion and love of beauty to create in one place all the best that nature can offer. The gods were so pleased with their work that allowed to ordinary people to live here.

Before the arrival of the Spaniards Xel-Ha served as a religious center as well as a reliable port, where an active trade was carried out. Now the waters of the park are inhabited by exotic marine animals, including the Dolphins, with whom you can go for a swim in the mask or diving.
