A professional guide will begin the story about Kiev on one of the hills of the city where it began its history − on St. Volodymyr's Hill. It was named in honor of Prince Volodymyr who had christened the Kievan Rus. The hill, according to the chronicles, was the place where three brothers Kyi, Scheck and Khoryv and their sister Lybid fonded the city in 482 AD. Here you will see the reconstruction of the foundation of the Church of the Tithes, the church with a long and tragic history: it was built by Prince Vladimir in the late tenth century, then in 1240 destroyed by the Tatars and forgotten for several centuries, until the early nineteenth century, when received a second birth. However, during the Soviet era, like many other churches, the Church of the Tithes was demolished, and got a chance to exist again at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
From ancient Kiev you will go to the modern city, visiting the famous National Opera of Ukraine (the building was constructed in 1901), National University of Kiev (1837-1843).
