Chinese New Year
On Friday, January 31, the residents of Chinatown in Mexico City celebrated a 4711 Chinese New Year.
According to a long tradition the extraordinary, festive atmosphere reigned on the streets of Chinatown, the mass celebrations and the spectacular performances were organized – the dancing dragon, the dances of land boats, the martial arts performances, the traditional Chinese folk dances.
Everywhere the traditional Chinese dishes were offered to taste, as the New Year’ Chinese food is especially plentiful and diverse. The New Year’ dinner is not complete without dishes made of chicken, fish and "doufu" – bean curd, which we call "tofu", because in the Chinese the names of these products are in tune with the words "happiness" and "wealth".
Chinatown in Mexico City is located in the historic center of the city; it appeared in the 70s of the XX century, and now about three thousand families of Chinese and other Asians and their descendants live here.
New Year's Eve was ended with the launch of hundreds of fireworks. The celebrating of Chinese New Year in Mexico will last a whole month.
On this day all the Peruvians and especially the residents of Lima commemorate the first saint of their land, which became its patroness – the St. Rose of Lima.
