Native American Day is celebrated in Mexico every year on April 19 in memory of the Inter-American Indian Congress, assembled in Mexico on the same day in 1940 to protect and preserve the indigenous cultures of Northern and Southern Americas.
Every year on this day, the Mexicans remember six young men who died in the Battle of Chapultepec (the castle in Mexico City) in 1847, during the war of Mexico with the United States.
