Description

Cholula was one of the most important religious and political centers of Mesoamerica. Currently, it is a small town situated on the road to Puebla. Its most important sanctuary is the Pyramid of Tepanapa, by volume, it's three times larger than famous Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt. The Pyramid of Tepanapa is now surrounded with overgrown grass, and looks more like a hill than a pyramid, overshadowing the Catholic church on the top of it. The Catholic church was built on the same place of the destroyed pagan church. Taking a guided tour through the narrow passages of the pyramid you'll familiarize yourself with the ancient history of the complex.

The road to Puebla passes between the snow-capped volcanoes – Popocatepetl, Iztaccihuatl and Pico de Orizaba – the highest active volcanoes in the Northern Hemisphere.

Next, you will visit Puebla, or, as it’s also called, the City of Angels. According to legend, the angels have designed a plan for the city. And so, the first city planners have vowed to build 365 churches in the city. You will familiarize yourself with the inimitable colonial architecture of the city; you’ll visit the Church of Santo Domingo and the Chapel Del Rosario, built in Baroque-Churrigueresque style. And don't forget to taste the famous chocolate sauce – the mole, in one of the Mexican restaurants.
